The FRDC (Frame Running Dragons Cardiff) club was founded by Gabriela Todd, a senior physiotherapist in 2014 wha ran a 6 week pilot supported by Quest88 at NIAC in Cyncoed in Cardiff.

This was well attended and storage and training opportunities were found at what was then Cardiff International Athletic Stadium. FRDC have continued to be supported by House of Sports to train there.

Strong links have been made with Cardiff University. Dawn Pickering has been instrumental in directing willing physiotherapy student volunteers to us over the years. They come with DBS checks and make an important contribution running along, chatting and encouraging.

Gabriela, had been working with Quest 88 for many years with accessible cycling opportunities. She noticed they kept mentioning the Petra frame. One day curiosity got the better of her and she Googled it! It’s a frame runner made in Denmark. She then went on to discover the offer of an annual International Camp and Cup in Copenhagen for one week. The cost was low and included simple school classroom accommodation, home cooked meals and level access to the athletic track within 15 meters plus training. English was the language and anybody could apply whether they had been running before or not and regardless whether they actually had a frame. She could think of so many families who might enjoy this and decided to attend to see for herself.

Gabriela is at the Cardiff Athletics Club, Cardiff every Friday from 5 pm-6 pm in term time, ready to support people who want to use the frame runners on  the track. The club has a range of sizes for adults to toddlers. Sessions also happen in the holidays, keep an eye on the website for other events.
